Women United, a committee of United Way of Greater Charlottesville, is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2025 grant cycle, which is awarding a collective total of $60,000 to nonprofits in our region. Women United supports local women and children through the collective giving of its membership, with their grants focusing on uplifting nonprofits in the human services spaces that work towards this shared goal.
Grants To Support Local Women & Children
In order to qualify, organizations must offer some programming and/or resources supporting women and/or children, but don’t need to solely focus all of their work on these groups. The diversity seen amongst the grant awardees for this cycle highlight the various facets that impact the wellbeing of women and children in our community. The 10 nonprofits receiving grants from Women United this year are working to improve access to childcare and education, safe housing, reliable food, the arts, and more. Women United is thrilled to award grants to the following organizations:
Albemarle Housing Improvement Program
Mission: To provide critical home repairs that ensure safety for residents and preserves the fabric of our community. Visit their website.
Emergency Food Network
Mission: To provide food for three days of balanced meals, on the same day requested, to individuals and families in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Visit their website.
Feeding Greene
Mission: To see that no one goes to bed hungry in our community. Visit their website.
HopeCam
Mission: To create a better quality of life for children with cancer by virtually connecting them with their classmates and peers. To make these connections, we provide tablets, laptops, WIFI access, and Hopecam resources at no cost to families. Visit their website.
Hospice of the Piedmont
Mission: To guide life’s final journey with expertise and empathy. Visit their website.
Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville-Albemarle
Mission: To promote adult literacy through equitable, inclusive, free, confidential, one-to-one English and Citizenship tutoring. Visit their website.
Piedmont Family YMCA
Mission: To strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Visit their website.
ReadyKids
Mission: To promote kids’ well-being through counseling, family support, and early learning opportunities. Visit their website.
Sexual Assault Resource Agency
Mission: To eliminate sexual violence and its impacts through education, advocacy, and support to all individuals affected by sexual assault and abuse. Visit their website.
The Paramount Theater of Charlottesville
Mission: To educate, enchant, enrich, and enlighten our community through the power of the arts by providing high-quality programming and fostering a dynamic venue for civic engagement. Visit their website.
Women United is excited to see how the grant recipients use their funding to make a positive impact on women and children in our region. Jill Colby, Women United Grants Sub-Committee Chair, said “To have the opportunity to learn about 60 incredible local organizations who applied to this grants cycle was very moving for our group. To then be able to award 10 grants that will help continue to make this important work possible is truly an honor.” This year in particular, Women United wanted to help showcase the work happening in our community, as it is the 20th anniversary for the philanthropic group.

A New & Improved Application
This year, Women United also updated their grant application process to make it as seamless and efficient as possible. As a result, they received an unprecedented number of applications from a broad array of organizations that reflected more localities, mission areas, and client populations than ever before. While happy to see an uptick in application numbers, the group faced a tough challenge when determining how to award grant funding. Colby said “We were thrilled to see the response to this year’s revised application process! It turned out to be an incredibly competitive year. Women United remains committed to helping women and children in our community, so we hope that any nonprofits who were not selected in 2025 apply again in 2026.”
