Fellow community members,
First, I want to thank everyone who has rallied to uplift and support our community during this unprecedented and frightening time. The rapid and cohesive response is heartening and a signal of the strength of our community.
We are proud to be partnering with the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, Cville Community Cares, the City of Charlottesville, and the County of Albemarle to distribute funds through the COVID-19 Community Emergency Response Fund. This fund, created to provide individuals and families with resources to obtain essentials like food and prescriptions, is currently serving over 1000 families per week.
To find support, call the hotline at 434-234-4490. To make a contribution visit www.unitedwaycville.org/donate.
Amidst helping to lead the local response around COVID-19 relief, we are continuing to do our ongoing work in our impact areas of school readiness, financial stability, and connected community. We are working daily with local early education centers and moving forward with our Family Investment program.
Our entire staff and partner network have been working hard during this frightening time, but a special thank you to our Community Outreach Coordinator, Anna Porter, who during this crisis has been serving at the community-wide Office of Emergency Management. She has been working to coordinate local volunteer needs and donations of supplies like food, PPEs (personal protection equipment), etc. Check our CvilleVolunteer.org for a regularly-updated list of volunteer needs.
We would also like to thank the Wardle Family Foundation, our partner for the Initiative for Effective Nonprofits, for providing funds to support operating costs for local nonprofit partners focusing on early education.
Lastly, a point of process. We will continue to follow CDC guidelines and recommendations to keep our staff, families, and community safe. As of now, the United Way office will remain closed, with staff working from home, through June 10. This plan will be updated as we receive more information. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram @unitedwaycville for details and updates.
