Multiple Choice is an inspiring documentary that challenges the “college-for-all” educational ideology and highlights the value of vocational training and career-based learning as an alternative. It follows Dr. Jason Van Heukelum, Superintendent at Emil Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center, a pioneering vocational school in Winchester, Virginia, in addition to the school’s students and faculty. The film gives a firsthand look at how hands-on, real-world experience–centered learning models can prepare young people for both college and professional careers and the transformative impact that rethinking education can have on students and their communities.

One of our core values at United Way of Greater Charlottesville, which focuses on the significant role that access to quality early education can have on a child’s future success at school and in life. We also know that access to childcare has a direct impact on families’ employment and financial conditions, which is why we offer a multifaceted approach to our programs and services. One issue cannot be addressed without addressing the others. This is why we are excited to present Multiple Choice, which showcases just how interconnected educational programming and policies are with other issues facing our local communities and economies.

We hope to see you at the theater!
