Early Learning Career Launch

The Early Learning Career Launch (ELCL) is a tiered workforce development initiative that prepares and supports individuals entering and advancing in the early childhood education field. Through a structured pathway, participants gain the skills, experience, and credentials needed to enter the workforce and grow their careers, while receiving ongoing support to promote retention and long-term success in early childhood settings. Currently, ELCL includes two levels: Level II supports entry-level educators as they enter the field, and Level III supports current educators in advancing their skills through additional early childhood credentials.

This program provides a clear pathway to a stable and rewarding career with growth potential, which offers my family long-term financial security. Beyond the professional benefits, the skills I will gain in child development and communication will make me a more effective caregiver and advocate for the children in my community.

Level II- Entry Level Educators

Level II prepares individuals to enter the early childhood workforce through a short-term, cohort-based paid training in partnership with UVA’s Pipelines and Pathways, focused on child development, professionalism, and licensure requirements. Participants engage in daily training, connect directly with local employers, and receive support through the hiring and onboarding process, including early mentorship once employed. Interested in joining the training? Learn more here. Are you a publicly funded early childhood provider seeking employees and interested in partnering as an employer? Become a partner.

Level III-Early Childhood Certification

Level III supports early childhood educators in advancing their credentials through a 16-credit early childhood certificate program offered in partnership with PVCC, designed to build deeper knowledge and support long-term career growth. Participants receive cohort-based support from UWGC, including guidance through enrollment, financial aid, and ongoing coaching to help them successfully complete the program. Learn more about the coursework and requirements here. If you’re interested in learning more about Level III or already know you’d like to participate in a future cohort, please complete this form or contact Lauren Tucker at ltucker@unitedwaycville.org for more information about upcoming enrollment opportunities.

Future Levels

Level I will introduce high school students to careers in early childhood education through early exposure and potential apprenticeship opportunities, creating a strong entry point into the workforce pipeline. At the advanced end of the pathway, Level IV supports current and aspiring program leaders by building leadership capacity, strengthening business and operational practices, and connecting directors to shared services supports that promote program quality and sustainability. For questions about the Early Learning Career Launch please reach out to Blair Davis bdavis@unitedwaycville.org.
